Alexander Neumeister is an Austrian-American physician-scientist and biotechnology executive based in Boston. He trained as a concert pianist in Vienna before turning to medicine, earned his M.D. at the University of Vienna Medical School, and completed his psychiatry and neurology residency at the same institution.
He joined the National Institute of Mental Health in 2001, where his research centered on neuroimaging and genetic studies of mood and anxiety disorders, and went on to hold faculty appointments at Yale, Mount Sinai and NYU and to direct the PTSD Research Program at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. More than 300 peer-reviewed publications carry his name. He now oversees gene therapy clinical programs at AskBio, and joins the 2026 panel on pardons and clemency.
